Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to a family of 12 poor children that would be raised in the same household, figured out very young how to overcome of difficulties by using her rich and vivid imagination. Before she was able to read and write she began to compose the songs she wrote herself. The first time she picked up a guitar was when she was just 8 years old and started performing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of 11. In the same year, she released her first album with Gold Band Records an independent small label. In high school She made her mark locally but dreamed about an even bigger stage. The year 1964 was the day following her graduation from high-school the singer moved to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums for Monument Records. Porter Wagoner's syndicated TV show was in need of the services of a new singer by this point. Parton took the offer in 1967 and signed to RCA Records in 1968 and became a member of with the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. The show was cancelled by Wagoner, but in 1974, because her solo albums such as Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene beat out their collaborative albums. Following their breakup, Parton wrote the song I Will Always Love You for Wagoner and it climbed to No. For the first time, in 1974.
